Driving in Ayia Napa
As holiday driving destinations go, Cyprus is as good as it gets – roads here are very similar to those in the UK. What’s more, motorists also drive on the left-hand side of the road in Cyprus.
One major difference is how speed limits are signposted. In Cyprus, limits are displayed in km/h rather than mph. Unless otherwise stated, standard speed limits are 50km/h (31 mph) in built-up areas, 65km/h (40 mph) on country roads and between 65km/h and 100km/h (62 mph) on motorways.
Rules around headlights also differ significantly from the UK. In Cyprus, it’s mandatory to keep dipped headlights switched on whenever you’re driving, no matter the time of day or season.
For road trips in your hire car from Ayia Napa, set off on the A3 to get to beachy Larnaca in around 40 minutes. Continue on the A5 and A1 to reach historic Limassol, which is approximately one hour and twenty minutes away.
