Bulgaria has four distinct seasons. Spring is warm, summer is long and hot, autumn is pleasant with stunning foliage, and snow falls abundantly during the winter.
Although each season attracts different types of visitors, summer is by far the most popular travel season. The months of February to May are considered the low season and can be marginally cheaper.

Local and international artists will grace the Jazz Festival in August. The midnight jazz programme that runs till the early morning hours is a firm favourite among festival-goers.
In the same month, the sound of bagpipes echoes off the mountainsides in Gela, in the south of the country. With the aim of promoting Rhodope folklore, a bagpipe contest attracts players of all ages.
Responsible for producing 85% of the world’s rose oil, the Rose Valley in Bulgaria celebrates this beautiful blossom in the first week of June with a parade and the crowning of a Rose Queen.
The Black Sea coast
Boasting more than 370km (232 miles) of glorious coastline and a string of Blue Flag beach resorts, the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast has become a major beach holiday destination. Sunny Beach, located 35km (21 miles) north of Burgas, is the liveliest resort town and a popular party destination, but its massive water park means it also appeals to families with young children.
For a quieter holiday experience, head to Albena in the north, or Sozopol in the south. The best-kept secret of the Black Sea Coast has to be its spa resorts, with the mineral-rich mud baths found here allegedly preventing wrinkle
Let it snow
Reliable snowfall and affordable après-ski options make Bulgaria a burgeoning ski destination in Europe. In the heart of the Rhodopi Mountains, Pamporovo ski resort attracts beginners and early intermediates to its gentle and sheltered slopes.

The ski season runs from mid-December to mid-April – you can find and compare prices on the TravelSupermarket website to find the cheapest all-inclusive ski packages for the winter season in 2024 and beyond.
Journey through the ages
Holidaying in Bulgaria is like taking a journey through the ages. There are often great cheap city break deals on offer to the capital city Sofia, where the ancient ruins of Serdica rub shoulders with the neo-byzantine style Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
A short distance away, in the deep valley of Rilska amid dense pine forest, the majestic Rila Monastery is a 10th century Eastern Orthodox monastery with brightly coloured frescoes.

TravelSupermarket is a price-comparison site for all things holiday related. To make sure you don’t pay a penny too much for a getaway, we scan holiday prices from the UK’s most trusted travel brands. Simply run a holiday search and we will allow you to compare deals from multiple companies in one place.
Once you’ve found the best deal for you, TravelSupermarket will direct you to your chosen company to book. As we don’t take bookings or sell anything ourselves, we remain impartial and focused on helping you to find the best price.
Our customers save an average of £350 per holiday by comparing deals on TravelSupermarket.*
As well as holidays, TravelSupermarket allows you to compare the best deals from car hire companies, low-cost and charter airlines, hotel and other accommodation sites, plus travel extras from airport parking and airport lounges to travel insurance and car hire excess insurance.
Find out more about TravelSupermarket's history and what makes us tick on our about us page and read answers to frequently asked questions about the site.
Every day, TravelSupermarket scans more than two million holiday prices from the UK’s top travel companies, plus deals from over 700 individual car hire providers from more than 20 suppliers.
We update these prices every two hours. However, due to supply and demand, the price of holidays and car hire may have changed when you click through. Always confirm the price with the company you are booking with.
Holiday prices do not include tourist tax so make sure you know what and how much this is. Check whether extras such as hold luggage and transfers from the airport are included, too, if they are important to you.
All of the travel companies on TravelSupermarket that sell package holidays including flights provide financial protection through the ATOL scheme. Once you’ve booked, you should receive an ATOL certificate from the company you booked with.
If your package holiday doesn’t include a flight, protection will be provided by ABTA or the Travel Trust Association.
Before you go on holiday, it’s sensible to check the latest travel advice about the country you are travelling to, paying attention to entry requirements and any safety concerns. Check the latest advice from the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and read its Travel Aware advice.
