Because Easter falls early on the 28th of March in 2027, the peak school holiday surge is completely over by the first few days of April. If you can fly any time after the 4th of April, you’ll hit a "value vacuum" where prices for the Canary Islands and Cyprus plummet just as the Mediterranean weather begins to truly settle. It’s the ultimate window for child-free travellers to snag mid-summer heat at low-season rates.
If you are heading to Krabi or Phuket in mid-April, you’ll run straight into Songkran (Thai New Year). While it’s the most vibrant time to visit, demand for local flights and hotels spikes between the 13th and 15th of April. To keep your budget intact, book your internal travel well in advance or aim to arrive from the 18th of April onwards, when the festivities wind down and luxury resort prices return to their sensible spring levels.
With Easter Sunday falling on 5 April this year, the school holidays are impacting prices for travel in the first two weeks of April especially. However, destinations such as the Caribbean and Thailand are leaving their peak seasons in April, meaning prices are likely to be lower later in the month, with good deals to be had.
The best value holidays in April are in destinations that have either left or aren’t yet experiencing their peak seasons. Across Europe, pre-summer weather in the Canary Islands, the Algarve and southerly spots such as Cyprus, Crete or Malta offer warmth at lower prices than peak summer. Or longer haul, the Caribbean and Mexico are leaving their dry season in April.
For the cheapest all-inclusive deals in April, travel later in the month. Increased demand around the Easter school holidays means that flights and hotels are at a premium in the first half of the month, though you may be able to score a last-minute deal if you’re flexible on your exact travel dates and destination.
Short-haul destinations such as the Canary Islands and Cyprus are warming up in April, with temperatures around 20⁰C. With numerous airlines and operators serving both, you’ll find prices outside of the Easter holidays are competitive. For a city break, try Seville or Athens before the summer rush. Longer haul, Thailand and Vietnam are good value options.
Turkey is generally cheaper than Greece in April, due to slightly cooler temperatures and the weaker Turkish Lira compared to the Euro. Expect daytime maximums of around 19°C in Greece in April, compared to average maximums of around 16°C in Turkey.
